Officials are investigating the death of an inmate at the Douglas County Detention Center. The 31-year-old male inmate was found unconscious Thursday, and later pronounced dead.

The inmate has not been named at this time. He was taken into the jail just before 6 a.m. on Thursday morning. About 11 hours later, he was found unconscious in a cell as a deputy delivered dinner.

That was around 5 p.m., when the deputy noticed the man was not breathing, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and medical personnel started life saving efforts before Castle Rock Fire and Rescue responded and took over.

The inmate was pronounced deceased at 5:46 p.m.

Authorities stated that the inmate was in the cell by himself and that there were no signs of physical disturbance or suspicious activity seen by the detention staff.

In December, another inmate was found deceased in the jail, the county’s coroner later reporting the inmate had heart problems
