JOB TITLE: Newspaper Mailroom Helper

As a Newspaper Mailroom Helper, you will play a vital role in the efficient operation of the mailroom department within our newspaper organization. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the sorting, packaging, and distribution of newspapers, as well as maintaining a clean and organized workspace. You will work as part of a team to ensure that newspapers are processed accurately and delivered on time to subscribers and distribution points.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Sorting and Packaging: Assist in sorting newspapers according to delivery routes or distribution areas, and package them for delivery or pickup.
  • Inserting: Feed multiple pre-printed inserts into hoppers for insertion into newspapers.
  • Distribution Support: Help load newspapers onto delivery trucks or transport them to designated distribution points within the facility.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that newspapers are sorted and packaged accurately, and report any errors or discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate basic mailroom equipment such as conveyor belts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks under supervision.

A press operator has the skills to work capably on an offset printing press in an effective manner with other employees.

REPORTS TO: Production Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*

  • Prepare the press for printing. May involve many presets that specific jobs require.
  • Able to load paper and mount plates, in accordance with ink settings or paper width.
  • Prepare press in a timely and accurate manner.
  • While the press is running, make decisions on what is acceptable and unacceptable.
  • Keep printing press supplied to keep running with materials such as ink or fountain solution.
  • Take maintenance seriously. During planned or unplanned downtime, keep the machine in good working order through preventative maintenance.

JOB TITLE: Summer Reporting Intern

Colorado Community Media is seeking a news reporting intern. The position is a full-time paid internship, which runs for 10 weeks this summer. The intern will work with CCM reporters and editors on general assignments for the publications and websites in our network and will have the opportunity to contribute to in-depth reporting projects.

Compensation: $15 per hour, 40 hours per week with overtime as needed

Approximate start date: June 10

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hit the ground running and get real-world experience in all aspects of news and features reporting, including source development, interviewing, multimedia storytelling and audience engagement.
  • Gain experience working as a member of a news team with the opportunity to collaborate on reporting projects with seasoned editors and reporters.
  • Learn the ins and outs of working for community newspapers by covering local events and reporting on a variety of issues from education to city government to business to breaking news.

  • Hold at least a junior status at an accredited college or university, or a bachelor’s degree in journalism, photography, public relations, or a related field. ( Dependent on experience; sophomores or other fields will be considered.)
  • Possess strong writing skills
