The sounds of taps will echo throughout the country as millions of Americans honor fallen members of the Armed Forces on Memorial Day, including in Highlands Ranch. A tribute will be held at the annual Memorial Day Service at the Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument, near the Highlands Ranch Library.

The event, meant to honor the more than 1 million men and women who lost their lives fighting for their country, starts at 11:45 a.m. Guests, however, are encouraged to arrive early to read the Dedication Tiles leading up to Civic Green Park.

The memorial dedication stone recognizes the lives of Highlands Ranch residents who were killed in action.

No seating will be provided at the approximate 30-minute long event, which is hosted by the Highlands Ranch Metro District. Guests may bring their own chairs if they are not comfortable with standing for long periods of time.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Highlands Ranch Concert Band and members of Highlands Ranch American Legion Post 1260 will be in attendance.

David Simonson, veteran and Highlands Ranch Metro District Board Treasurer, will emcee the service. Raeann Brown, veteran and Douglas County coroner, and Bob Marshall, veteran and current representative of Colorado House District 43, will also make remarks.

Following the National Monument Remembrance Act that became law in December of 2000, Americans are also asked to pause for one minute at 3 p.m. in an act of national unity.

The Highlands Ranch Veterans Monument is located at 9292 S. Ridgeline Blvd.
