A pedestrian died this morning after being struck by a vehicle on East Arapahoe Road in Centennial.
The crash occurred at 5:47 a.m. near the intersection of South Fairfax Way, Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ginger Delgado said.
The pedestrian was a 62-year-old man who investigators believed to be homeless, Delgado said. The coroner’s office has not yet responded to the Centennial Citizen’s request for the victim’s identity.
Citing a preliminary investigation, Delgado said the man was pushing a shopping cart across East Arapahoe Road and into a lane of eastbound traffic when he was struck.
Delgado said it was dark outside and the man was wearing dark clothing. Road conditions across the metro area were also snowy and icy in spots after overnight snowfall.
The crash is under investigation by officials.
The man was transported to a local hospital after the crash and pronounced dead.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with officials, the sheriff’s office posted on X.
As of early March, there were 17 pedestrian fatalities and two cyclist fatalities across Colorado, according to state Department of Transportation data.
