A 56-year-old Keenesburg man is under arrest for two Brighton bank robberies in February, according to a release from the United States District Attorney’s Office.
In a press release Monday, the office named the bank robbery suspect as John Michael Kirby of Keenesburg. He heard his charges Feb. 26 from U.S. District Judge Kathryn Starnella in Denver.
Police reported a robbery at 2:41 p.m. Feb. 19 at the Bank of Colorado, 13 N. 50th Ave. The suspect, a male, demanded cash from bank employee and then fled on foot. No weapons were used or displayed, according to a written statement from the police, and the suspect remains at large with an undisclosed amount of cash.
It was the second Brighton bank robbery in less than two weeks. On Feb. 6, police responded to TBK Bank at 4th Avenue and Bridge Street at 3:03 p.m. after receiving an alarm notification from the bank. Officers learned that the male suspect demanded cash from the bank employee and then fled westbound on foot.
The two banks are about four miles apart on Bridge Street. Brighton Police and the FBI dubbed the robber the Afternoon Delight bandit.
Employees at TBK Bank described the suspect as a 5-foot-10 white male, 40-50 years old, wearing a black beanie, a black hoodie, glasses and a mask.
Photos from the Feb. 19 robbery show the robber dressed similarly but wearing a maroon bean and hoodie.
