PlatteForum plans to increase the number of youth it can serve through its ArtLab program. It will go from 40 to 50 interns thanks to a grant from the Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation.

PlatteForum’s ArtLab is an arts-education internship program for high school teens. It encourages them to engage with social issues and to use their voices to create change. Interns get the chance to work with experienced professional artists on projects that hone their technical, social/emotional, creative, professional and academic skills. Additional resources available to each intern include private therapy, tutoring, groceries, case management and access to technology.

The grant will also allow the interns’ hourly stipend to increase from $10 an hour to $11 an hour.

PlatteForum is a Denver-based nonprofit that, in addition to its ArtLab, has an artist residency program. Its art exhibits, performances and special events are always free and open to the public.
