What in your background makes you qualified for office?
Never having been in politics before or working in a government capacity is my biggest qualifier. I will bring a fresh citizen level understanding to the council with no intention of using the government to benefit myself. I Have a background in full charge bookkeeping to senior care to having my real estate license. I have never gotten into debt or spent money that I don’t have or that isn’t mine and I will treat taxpayer funds similarly. I intend to slowly look over as much as I can to make sure there are no redundancies or wasteful projects or backroom deals.
What elements would you like to see included in the Olde Town Arvada Reimagined 20-Year Plan? Would you like to see the street closures changed/altered? I would like to see a very nice memorial to Johnny Hurley firstly. As far as the roads I don’t see why you would waste the money to change the closures that were just put in. I think making sure the businesses want to stay in the area is key. The city of Arvada needs to protect businesses in case of any illegal mandates from any health departments starting again.
What areas of Arvada’s infrastructure do you believe need the most immediate attention? Obviously the roads need the most attention. We need to figure out why with all the extra tax money coming in, the roads were not being kept up. I don’t believe it is an underfunding problem but a mismanagement of funds problem and poor planning problem.
What role do you believe the City of Arvada should fill in providing resources for individuals experiencing homelessness? The city should be working with the county services to make sure those that want to be helped can get them. As a city we need to make sure we are not over regulating or over taxing our citizens which can put more people on the street. We also need to empower citizens to be more watchful of their own property. Perhaps a grant to get more video surveillance in neighborhoods. And if a homeless person commits crime, like anyone else, there needs to be the consequences for that.
How would you like to see the last stages of Candelas’ development proceed? What needs do you believe still need to be filled in the West side of town? There will need to be more restaurants first and foremost. I personally do not see a problem with apartment buildings in that area either.
