What in your background makes you qualified for office?
Being a Native of Arvada, a City which I love, and I been in elected positions for the last 25 years including the Apex Park and Recreation and Arvada Fire Districts plus many other community involvements including Boards and commissions. I have been President of most organizations I have been involved with. The schools I have taken large roles in the opportunities to help make schools better and enjoyable. My business has been located here which I opened a year out of High School. I have grown increasingly concerned about the direction we are headed with City Council recent years. The time has come that I have felt the need to step up to City Council with my experience and leadership which I have demonstrated though out my lifetime. It is enjoyable to help find solutions to problems through these many years that have benefitted this great city. My finger prints are on many projects and organizations that are enjoyed by all.
What elements would you like to see included in the Olde Town Arvada Reimagined 20-Year Plan? Would you like to see the street closures changed/altered? It will be fun to see the final study on Olde Town. It would be nice to keep the Street Closures and in that area remove the Curbs so it will have more of a flat area to make it feel more open. Finding a better traffic calming method on 57th in the Olde Town area would be welcomed. The circles appear to cause confusion and large vehicles have a difficult time maneuvering through them. Pickups are bad enough imagine driving a Fire Truck around them.
What areas of Arvada’s infrastructure do you believe need the most immediate attention? Our roads need great attention. First we need to finish the projects that are under construction. Because of the Employment and materials shortages and price increases we have been seeing, they have taken too long and we need to see them through to completion. It will be necessary to take a hard look at how we can get our roads back into acceptable condition.
What role do you believe the City of Arvada should fill in providing resources for individuals experiencing homelessness?
The last 8 years the Fire Chief and I have been talking about the Star Unit of Arvada Fire which was launched the first of the year. It is a Co Responder program for mental health response which has been showing exceptional response. We are now helping the mental health issues in the proper way. The Star unit has been out working with the homeless by building a relationship with those individuals. Many have been then coming to them for getting the proper help. We could look at helping many of them with legal issues and getting them though the system and finding the proper help for them. There are many programs for them that we just need to find a way to get them to accept what they may need.
How would you like to see the last stages of Candelas’ development proceed? What needs do you believe still need to be filled in the West side of town? Right now the land development code is in place that should be followed as best as we can. The west side of Arvada is in desperate need of more shopping and restaurants.
