As part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, local officers are holding a cell phone drive. Gently-used cell phones can be dropped off at the Lone Tree, Parker or Castle Rock police departments.

“Donated phones are refurbished (or properly disposed of) by the 911 CellPhone Bank and redistributed by our agencies to assist victims of crime, ensuring they have access to police aid and intervention,” said Jennifer Roger-Flynn, Lone Tree Police Department victim services coordinator.

The 911 Cell Phone Bank is an initiative of the nonprofit The Charitable Recycling Foundation Inc. in which phones that are no longer needed or left behind are securely data-erased and then donated to law enforcement and victims’ agencies to give to those who are victims of human trafficking and domestic violence.

Donation boxes will be in the lobby of the Lone Tree, Parker and Castle Rock police departments through Friday, April 26.

“Phones are preferred to be dropped off during Victims’ Rights Week, but they will be accepted at any time,” said Roger-Flynn.

Once the devices are wiped of previous data, the departments Victim’s Assistance Units will distribute them throughout the year to those in need.
