Veteran educator Amy Bruce has been named the new principal of West Ridge Elementary School in Thornton.

Bruce replaces Carie Brock who accepted a principal job in Wisconsin and left at the end of the school year. She officially begins her new role on July 20.

School District 27J superintendent Chris Fiedler had warm words for Brock.

“Amy is a proven leader with a history of implementing programs and initiatives to improve academic achievement at each school she has served,” Fiedler said.

Brock has been the principal of John Amesse Elementary School in Denver for the past two years. Prior to joining Denver Public Schools, she spent eight years in the Adams 12 School District in Thornton – first as a principal at Westview Elementary for four years and then as the district’s director of grants for four years. She also was a principal of Cochocton Elementary School in Cochocton, New York, where she worked for about five years.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education as well as a master’s degree in reading education from St. Bonaventure University in New York. She later received her educational administration certificate from the State University of New York.
