Residents in the Castle Pines North Metro District had a water boil advisory lifted on June 12 after technical issues caused the state order.
On June 10, a water boil advisory was put in place by the state’s Water Quality Control Division of the Colorado Public Health & Environment for north Castle Pines residents.
In informing residents about the order, metro district officials said technical issues caused the water system to lose its chlorine injector on June 8. On June 9, the district lost complete pressure on almost half of the distribution system. The other half of the distribution system experienced low pressure.
According to the news release, a boil water advisory had to be instated because loss of chlorine injector and the loss of pressure in the distribution system can allow disease-causing organisms to enter the water system.
After several days of testing, the Water Quality Control Division officially removed the water-boil advisory on the evening of June 12. The advisory was lifted after no bacteria was found in multiple samples that were taken over the three-day period.
As a precaution, the Castle Pines website warned residents that it may take time for the water system to completely return to normal. To continue to ensure water safety, the district provided the following tips and information:
The process to restore water pressure may stir up sediment in the pipes and result in discolored water. Residents can run several cold water taps in the home for a few minutes to flush out any remaining sediment.
The metro district also recommends that residents throw away any ice made with tap water during the week of June 6, including any ice the freezer may have automatically made.
For appliances, district officials say residents can flush out coffee makers, dishwasher, or other appliances as a safety precaution.
