Annual Girl Scout cookies sales may have ended March 10, but Steuben’s Arvada is keeping some of the iconic flavors at the forefront with ice cream and cupcakes made from and inspired by Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Samoas.

The sweet treats are the creation of Executive Pastry Chef Nadine Donovan, who bought 72 boxes of Girl Scout cookies from Morrison-based Troop 5453 to incorporate into the desserts.

For the month of March, Donovan is making Thin Mint, Tagalong and Samoa ice cream and cupcakes, which will be on rotation at Steuben’s as the “special flavors.”

For the cupcakes, Donovan chops the cookies up and bakes them in to cupcakes. She is also making frosting flavors that pair with the cookie flavors. For the ice cream, the flavor of the cookies are heightened and pieces are also incorporated in.

The Samoa ice cream, for example, is a coconut ice cream base with a caramel swirl and Samoa cookie pieces.

Members of Troop 5453 visited Donovan at Steuben’s Arvada March 4 to taste-test the ice cram flavors. Word like “heavenly,” “divine,” and “delicious” flowed from their mouths in between large bites of each flavor.

“It’s been a really sweet partnership,” said Troop leader Lisa Rago. “It gives the girls the experience that it can be bigger than just me selling cookies to my neighbors and friends and family. That businesses really enjoy taking part and doing something positive with the girls. And it goes back to the community.”

In addition to buying the cookies from the troop, Steuben’s will also donate 20 percent of proceeds from sales of the Girl Scout-inspired desserts to the charity of the troops choice.

The philanthropy chosen by the scouts is the Intermountain Humane Society in Conifer.

“The kids were really interested in doing something with animals,” Rago said.

The troop plans to use their profits from cookies sales to go camping as a group.
