Vigil (36-4), who almost didn't return to the team this year but was talked into it by his dad and coaches, beat Lincoln Gregersen of Ralston Valley 13-7 in tonight's finals.
Vigil picked up a technical fall win over Grandview's Rhett Herman in the opening round and a major decision win over Pine Creek's Sir Israel Puido in the quarterfinals. The PVHS sophomore beat Mark Cardenas of POmona 12-6 in the finals.
10:50 p.m. Feb. 18
DENVER -- Ane'e Vigil goes for his second straight title tomorrow. He'll face Lincoln Gregerson of Ralston Valley. Vigil earned his ticket to the finals with a 12-6 decision over Mark Cardenas of Pomona.
At 120 pounds, Jacob Myers of Ponderosa earned a major (11-1) decision over Josiah Alvarado in the semifinals. Alvarado awaits the winner of the match between Grandview's Sean Arnett and Poudre's Tony Garcia Lopez.
Bryson Porta stayed alive in the 170-pound consolation bracket. He beat Pine Creek's David Thompson by pinfall and beat Rocky Mountain's Cole Griffin in overtime in the second round of consolation matches. Porta takes on Charlie Williams of Monarch.
At 220 pounds, Lukas Villalobos stayed alive by pinning Brock Kolstad of Fairview and pinning Adrian Arellano of Pomona in the consolation rounds. Villalobos' next opponent is Jake Howell of Cherry Creek.
Nolan Peterson is out of the tourney at 106 pounds. He won his first -round consolation match over Chatfield's Sid Dillon but lost to Adams City's Nicholas Vasquez by an 8-1 decision in the second round of the consolation draw. Peterson finished with a record of 28-17.
Christopher Parks, PVHS' 285-pounder, is out of the tournament. Roman Schwab of Highlands Ranch pinned Parks in 2:32 of the first round of consolation matches. Parks finished the season with a record of 15-13.

DENVER -- Prairie View's Ane'e Vigil moved into the state semifinals at 113 pounds at the state 5A wrestling tournament this afternoon at Ball Arena. Vigil earned a 13-5, major decision against Pine Creek's Sir Israel Pulido in the quarterfinals. Vigil takes on Pomona's Mark Cardenas.
At 120 pounds, Josiah Alvarado turned back Pine Creek's Elijah Banks 9-0 in the quarterfinals. Alvarado moves on to face Ponderosa's Jacob Myers in the semis tonight.
At 220 pounds, Dylan Bravo-Packer of Brighton pinned Prairie View's Lukas Villalobos in 2:53 of their quarterfinal match. Villalobos stays alive in the consolation draw; his first match in that part of the bracket is later tonight.

DENVER -- Three members of Prairie View's wrestling team earned spots in the quarterfinal round of the state 5A tournament Feb. 17 at Ball Arena.
Ane'e Vigil moved on after a major (20-5) decision over Grandview's Rhett Herman at 113 pounds. Vigil faces Sir Israel Pulido of Pine Creek. At 120 pounds, Josiah Alvarado shut out Eagle's Keegan Beckford 7-0 in the opening round. Alvarado's next opponent is Pine Creek's Elijah Banks.
Lukas Villalobos needed 1:19 to pin Poudre's Cristian Paez in the opening round at 220 pounds. Villalobos faces Brighton's Dylan BravoPacker.
Dorian Ervin of Eagle pinned Prairie View's Nolan Peterson in 2:33 of their 106-pound match. Peterson draws Chatfield's Sid Dillon in the consolation round. At 170 pounds, Josh Allen of Grandview earned a 5-0 decision over PVHS' Bryson Porta. Porta's next opponent is Pine Creek's David DJ Thompson. Cade Whish of Fort Collins pinned PVHS' Christopher Parks in 36 seconds at 285 pounds. Parks faces Roman Schwab of heritage in a consolation match.
That round, plus the 5A quarterfinals, begins at 12:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
