State 3A track: Hawk claims 300-m hurdles title


LAKEWOOD -- Skylar Hawk of Holy Family won the state title in the girls 300-meter hurdles June 26 at Jeffco Stadium

Hawk, who had the top time from the preliminary round. won Saturday's race in a time of 46.05 seconds. 

Hawk, a senior, came into the event with the top time in the state (44.70) during the regular season.  She took fifth in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 400-meters.

She wasn't the only Tiger to claim a state championship. Brody Welch set a school record in the shot put and won that event easily, also a senior, threw 50-4 1/2, a school record. Welch also took fourth in the discus.

Holy Family's 4-by-100-meter relay team (Connor Byrne, Pierce Kunz, Dominic Neely and Grayson Arnold) finished third in a time of 43.67.
