Riverdale Ridge's Holliday tabbed for football all-star game

Holiday shopping in Dallas, Texas.

Chances are it has a nice ring for Riverdale Ridge football player RJ Holliday.

The Ravens' senior was among almost 300 players chosen for the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl Monday, Dec. 20, at Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium.

"I'm not sure about the whole nomination process," Holliday said. "I was sent a letter from the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl national director, Gus Bell, informing me I had been nominated 'based on excellent football performance at the high-school level.'"

That led to an evaluation on film and other sources as part of the selection process. Holliday is a two-time, all-conference selection, a three-time selection to the state's academic all-state team and an honorable-mention all-league honoree. This season, Holliday caught 37 passes for 767 yards and 10 touchdowns.

A few weeks later, he got the news.

"I think it was after a football practice when I came home. Mom and Dad told me the news that I had been selected and gotten a formal invite in the mail," Holliday said. "It is an honor to be selected for any of these experiences."

In nine games this season, Holliday racked up 21 solo tackles and 30 total tackles. He also intercepted four passes and had deflected eight passes.

"I think it will be a great experience and opportunity to learn more about my craft at the CB position while playing under different coaches and with different teammates," Holliday said. "It is always good to meet new people and do new things. You can always learn things from other players to improve your game on the field. This is just another opportunity to do that for me."

Holliday is in the midst of the college football recruiting process. He recently took a tour of the campus at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., an NCAA Division II program.

"I am excited for the opportunity and look forward to representing Riverdale Ridge and Colorado football," Holliday said..
