DENVER -- Riverdale Ridge's Emmy Kiefer placed sixth at 100 pounds at this year's state girls wrestling tournament at Ball Arena.
After splitting her first two matches .. a win over Platte Valley's Sadie Lynch and a loss to Vista Ridge's Hayden Newberg in the quarterfinals, Kiefer (29-12) won two consolation matches. One was a technical fall (17-2) decision over Ariyanna Orosco of Douglas County. In the consolation semifinals, Katey Valdez of Doherty pinned Kiefer in the second period.. Newberg and Kiefer met again -- this time for for fifth place -- and Newberg pinned Kiefer in the third period.
Isabella Smouse (32-10) split her four matches at state. She beat Dalilah Aguayo of Arvada and Chloe Smith of Yuma (by pinfall) and did not place. Natasha Kuberski (18-16) won once -- an 8-7 decision over Lauren Martinez of the Pueblo School District -- and did not place.
9:35 a.m. Feb. 19
DENVER -- Riverdale Ridge;s Emmy Kiefer stayed alive in the consolation draw at 100 pounds at Ball Arena last night.
Kiefer pinned Legacy's Alyssa Cortez in 2:35 of their match. Kiefer faces Ariyanna Orosco this morning.
9:10 a.m. Feb. 18
DENVER -- Riverdale Ridge's Emmy Kiefer lost by pinfall to Vista Rodge's Hayden Newburg this morning.
Kiefer is still alive in the consolation bracket. Her first match in that portion of the draw will be later tonight.
The Ravens' Isabella Smouse is in the consolation bracket at 105 pounds. Discovery Canyon's Mia Hargrove earned a major (12-4) decision in this morning's quarterfinal round. Smouse's first consolation round match is later tonight.
Matches are ongoing.
5 p.m. Feb. 17
DENVER -- Riverdale Ridge's Emmy Kiefer won her first-round match at 100 pounds. She pinned Platte Valley's Sadie Lynch in 56 seconds. Kiefer moves on to face Hayden Newberg of Vista Ridge High School.
Isabella Smouse also moved into the quarterfinals at 105 pounds. The Ravens' freshman pinned Arvada's Dalilah Aguayo in 4:59 of their first-round match. Smouse faces Mia Hargrove of Discovery Canyon.
Riverdale Ridge's Natasha Kuberski lost by pinfall to Marissa Rosario of Coronado. Kuberski faces Pueblo Central's Lauren Martinez in the consolation round.
That round plus the championship quarterfinals begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
