Residences are intended to fill gap in housing market

Modern apartments are making their way to Elizabeth, the first of their kind in Elbert County. Located off South Elizabeth Street next to Big R and the Elizabeth branch of the Pines & Plains Libraries, the Pine Ridge Apartments will consist of 64 two- and three-bedroom residential units.

The site development plan was approved in 2019 by the Town of Elizabeth Board of Trustees. Construction of the first two buildings, consisting of 32 units total, is anticipated to be finished and available early spring 2023.

The Pine Ridge Apartments are anticipated to serve people who work in Elbert County but who currently lack the option to live near their jobs due to the undersupply of rental housing.

“The housing stock in Elbert County consists of almost exclusively single-family homes. More multifamily options and rental products will address gaps in supply,” said Marc Dettenrieder, Elbert County economic development manager. “A more diversified housing inventory is needed for our critical workforce like law enforcement, first responders, teachers, and county/municipal employees.”

In an email correspondence from May 23 with Grace Erickson, development consultant for the Pine Ridge Apartments and management director for Providence Consulting LLC, she shared how she feels the new development will benefit Elizabeth.

“We are so excited that we were able to get this project off the ground, especially during such a challenging, inflationary period in our economy,” said Erickson. “We believe this project will be beneficial to the many individuals that make up the Elizabeth community, especially those who are employed at jobs in the Elizabeth area and currently must commute.”

The Pine Ridge Apartments will also provide a rentable option to those who may already reside in the Elizabeth area but wish to downsize or need more accessibility.

“With 32 ground-level units, we expect the apartments to provide an opportunity to senior citizens and people in need of accessible accommodations,” Erickson commented. “The proximity to commercial amenities and trails makes the Pine Ridge Apartments a great location for all different kinds of families and individuals looking for a convenient, walkable, and community-oriented lifestyle.”

The website for the apartments is anticipated to be published late summer 2022. Rental applications are anticipated to open by the end of the year.
