Western Heritage Welcome: Old West comes back to Castle Rock

Western Heritage Welcome kicks off weekend activities

Castle Rock paid tribute to the past last weekend, hosting the Western Heritage Welcome celebration.

The weekend events were hosted alongside the Douglas County Fair celebrations, making Castle Rock a popular place to be.

Events started on July 30 when downtown was transformed to pay tribute to the town’s Western roots. Cowhands from Silverado Ranch drove a herd of longhorn cattle down Perry Street with thousands in attendance.

The cattle drive is part of the town’s history, as during the 1800s, large herds of cattle were driven through Colorado. The route known as the Goodnight-Loving Trail passed east of Colorado Springs on the way to stockyards in Denver.

Following the cattle drive, visitors were treated to an Old West show, and plenty of activities including gold panning, cow milking and roping.

Through the weekend, the Douglas County Fair had more parades and a rodeo at the fairgrounds in Castle Rock.
