On May 3, Matthew Buchanan, 32, was arrested in Monroe County, Florida on charges including second degree murder. Castle Rock police issued a warrant for Buchanan after discovering the body of Elizabeth Bjorlow, 59, during a house fire on April 26.
Buchanan is being held at a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office jail until he can be extradited to Colorado, according to Castle Rock police.
“I’m so proud of our team for their diligent and quick work, and we hope this arrest brings some relief to our community,” Castle Rock Police Chief Jack Cauley said in a statement. “We are grateful to the many agencies who assisted us in locating this wanted person.”
The investigation is ongoing. A request for Buchanan’s arrest warrant was denied because the warrant is suppressed.
