Letter to the editor: Immunity of a different sort

According to the National Museum of American Diplomacy...an embassy is the headquarters for U.S. Government representatives in a foreign country. Embassies have a special status. While the host country is responsible for the security of U.S. diplomats, the embassy itself belongs to the country it represents. Representatives of the host country cannot even enter an embassy without permission — even to put out a fire!
Let’s compare the embassy to a church, a private church. The church is God’s embassy in society. Just as embassies are protected spaces on foreign soil, God’s church should be protected from the woke culture prevalent in America today. As a church and its teachings are protected, so too should be the private schools associated with a church.
The unelected head of the local health department should no more be allowed to issue mandates for mask wearing at a private school, than a foreign government be allowed to issue edicts for U.S. embassy staff members to wear burkas inside their embassy! The health department’s dominion should be public settings, not private.
No one in Arvada is forced to send their children to private schools. Any parent who wants, can pull their child out of the private school and send them to a public school ... and a low performing public school at that, based on Jeffco’s test scores reported in a recent Arvada Press.
Let the parents choose whether to mask their own children. Government should not be able to coerce compliance for masking, or other largely ineffective health measures.
