GOP needs resounding loss

Many are condemning Donald Trump as president and as reelection candidate. While the president has many shortcomings, he could have been a better president if only the Republican Party had made some effort to rein in his worst impulses. After all, he had never held any political office before and he neither understood nor valued our democratic form of government. Instead of guiding an inexperienced president, they abandoned their values to provide unwavering support to a man ignorant in the ways of governing. It is the Republican Party who has lost their way and are responsible for the excesses of the Trump administration.

While it is important to vote the president out of office, Republicans need an electoral shellacking that sends them to the wilderness where they can decide who they are as a party. It behooves all of us to assist them in that effort by voting them out of office at every level of government.
