Girls soccer: Brighton, PVHS await playoff draw

Brighton High School and Prairie View's girls soccer teams have to wait until Sunday, June 13, to find out about appearances in the state 5A soccer playoffs.

Because of the shortened season this year, 15 teams will be automatuic entries, plus one at-large squad, according to CHSAA's soccer bulletin distributed at the beginning of the season last month.

BHS captured the Eastern Metro Athletic Conference championship by scoring twice in the second half to beat Prairie View 3-1 June 8 on Brighton's field.  Elizabeth Heril, Faith Rivero and Karly Lambert scored the goals for BHS. Goalie Katie Powers made nine saves.

Brooklyn McKinney scored the goal for the ThunderHawks. Goalkeeper Sophia Misuraca had 12 saves.

First-round matches at the higher seeds are Tuesday, June 15.
