Football: Thornton’s Alarcon makes his choice .. Presentation College

Thornton High School’s Leonel Uribe Alarcon knows where’s going to spend part of the next four years of his life.

“I chose Presentation College (in Aberdeen, South Dakota) because they really built a good relationship with me, and I liked the town of Aberdeen,” he said. “I had a few other offers, but PC offered the best one in my opinion.”

Uribe finished his senior season with 43 total tackles, included 18 unassisted efforts, for a Trojan squad that went 4-6 last fall. He also ran the ball one time for 9 yards.

“Distance was tough to think about (Aberdeen is about eight hours driving time from Thornton). But knowing they had an airport helped a lot,” Alarcon said. “I plan to major in biology and when I graduate I’ll become an assistant researcher or a physical therapist.”

Recruiting is a stressful process at best. The ongoing pandemic has made it worse for a lot of high-school athletes hoping to get into college. It cuts down on potential in-person visits and, in some cases, cuts down on the number of available scholarships.

“The pandemic made it a little tough. But, luckily, it didn’t affect me as much as others,” he said. “I’m excited for a new start but scared of leaving home. I just want to add how grateful I am for those around me and have helped me get here.”
