UCHealth Highlands Ranch: First birth, one year later

Elésha Burford looks back on her memories of being the first woman to give birth in the UCHealth Highlands Ranch hospital fondly.

Leading up to the day of her c-section, she was feeling more than ready to meet her second child, Eloise. The pregnancy had been challenging and her first time giving birth had been somewhat traumatic.

“I had a whole bunch of questions,” Burford, 34, said. “But I was able to call in and talk to a nurse and she really put my mind at ease.”

One thing that attracted Burford to the hospital was that everything was brand new and squeaky clean, she said.

“I had this overwhelming sense of peace,” she said about her decision to give birth in the new hospital.

A few days after Eloise was born, Burford returned to the hospital because she had high blood pressure.

“I never really felt scared,” she said.

In the year since, she hasn’t had to return to the hospital again. On her daughter’s first birthday, the family celebrated by giving their daughter her first taste of cake.

“She’s such a big girl now,” she said. “She’s been walking since she was 11 months.”
