Ducky Derby sweeps through Castle Rock

Families turn out for annual fundraiser

Castle Rock residents swarmed to the downtown area June 8 to participate in the 2019 Rotary Ducky Derby. The event is an annual fundraiser for local rotary clubs and packed with family-friendly events.

The highlight of each year is a “race” among thousands of rubber ducks down East Plum Creek. Minutes before start time, dozens of attendees rushed down the trail to catch the release of the ducks into the creek. Children and their families followed along with the ducks, standing on the creek bed and splashing in the water as the ducks floated to the finish line.

Angela and Cliff Bachman attend the event every year but it was the first time for their son, 4-month-old Cooper, who sported a rubbery duck hat for the occasion.

“It’s going to be our family event every year to go to,” Angela said.
