Douglas County warns of fairground event scam

There is no New Year's Eve party planned.

Douglas County is warning citizens not to fall for a scam advertising a New Year’s Eve party at the fairgrounds this year.

“There is no such party,” according to a social media post from the county government page.

The event was advertised on eventbrite and asking for $10 to $20 per ticket, according to a county spokesperson. A link to the fake event has since become unavailable.

The event's description said: "Colorado’s biggest New Year’s Eve party. Filled with music food and drinks. Drug and alcohol-free party, tell you [sic] mom you with us," according to spokesperson Wendy Holmes.

"When we saw the post we checked with our facilities staff only to learn that no such party was booked with us and then we notified the Sheriff’s Office," Holmes said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the fraudulent event, which was advertised to be at the fairgrounds located in Castle Rock,  according to the post.
