Class 5A baseball: Mountain Vista ends BHS' season

HIGHLANDS RANCH -- Brighton High School's baseball team earned a split in the regional playoff round at Mountain Vista High School. But it wasn't enough to keep the Bulldogs' season going.

BHS beat Legend High School 10-4 in the tournament's first game before losing 10-0 in five innings to the host Golden Eagles June 14.

No stats were available for the win over the Titans. The two teams played June 12 in the regular-season finale, and Legend won a slugest 17-12 in Parker.

In the nightcap, Zack Perkins' walk stood between Mountain Vista's Evan Magill and a perfect game. He walked two and struck out seven. Canon Humphreys had two hits and drove in three runs. BHS' starting pitcher, Gavin Schmeh, struck out three in 4 1/3 innings of pitching.

BHS finished the year with a record of 11-7. Mountain Vista moves on to the double-elimination portion of the state playoffs Friday, June 18.
