Class 5A baseball: Brighton makes regional field

AURORA -- Brighton High School made it into the class 5A round of the class 5A baseball playoffs.

BHS faces Legend High School at noon Monday, June 14, at Mountain Vista High School. The two teams played June 12, and Legend won a slugfest 17-12. The winner faces the host Golden Eagles for a spot in the double-elimination portion of the postsason.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 10-6 mark and riding a four-game losing streak. Through 15 games, Alek Martinez was batting .467. Ten of his 21 hits went for extra bases, and he drove in 18 runs. Gavin Schmeh was batting .429 through 14 games and had 10 runs batted in.
 
Brok Eddy was batting .356 with a team-high five home runs and 23 RBIs. He also compiled a 2.59 earned-run average in six appearances. He struck out 44 in 27 innings. 
 
Two wins put Brighton into the double-elimination portion of the state tournament. That begins Friday, June 18. Follow twitter/com/sportsland for updates during the week.
