Castle Rock goes to Stage 1 fire restrictions

Ahead of the extreme fire risk weather predicted this weekend, Castle Rock has implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions.

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag and High Wind warnings for Douglas County throughout the day on Friday. Fire conditions are going to be extreme, according to NWS, which adds that the Denver Metro area has experienced this weather only one other time since  2010.

Winds are expected to be 30-40 mph with gusts up to 65 mph, while relative humidity is predicted to be low at 9%.

Under Stage 1 fire restrictions, open burning of any kind and fireworks are prohibited.

Douglas County also announced on Thursday that Stage 1 fire restrictions are in place.

Violations of the town’s fire restrictions could result in a $1,000 fine and/or 180 days in jail.
