Brighton police are looking for clues into an attempted car theft that ended with a pursuit and a crash. Two people are in area hospitals, and a third is in custody.
It began around 1 p.m. Oct. 25 in the 300 block of South 29th Avenue. A city statement said the victim saw someone try to steal the car. After a brief confrontation between the suspect and the car's owner, the suspect brought out a handgun. The suspect left the area in a Chevrolet pickup truck.
Police saw the truck near Prairie Center Parkway and Bromley Lane. Officers tried to stop the truck without success. The chase eventually wound up on Interstate 76.
The statement said the truck got off the freeway at Sable Boulevard, then tried to get back onto the freeway by using the median between the off-ramp and the interstate. The driver lost control and rolled the truck. The force of impact threw two people out of the truck. Those people are in area hospitals. A third person is in custody.
Brighton police said the truck was a stolen vehicle from Denver.
Police said the North Metro Accident Investigation Team will handle the crash investigation, and Brighton Police Department is handling the remainder of the investigation.
