20 years and more than 1,600 miles. That's how much time and distance separated the Goldenites who gathered in Parfet Park on Sept. 11 , 2021 from the heroism and horror of the events of the same morning in 2001 they came out to remember.

Golden Mayor Laura Weinberg was among those who offered comments and remembrances during the event, which was held in front of a giant flag that was draped over Washington Avenue in a poignant and patriotic tribute. Colorado School of Mines student Cole Barton ended the brief ceremony with a few solemn yet stirring trumpet notes.
