Steve Smith joined the staff in August 2004 and covers sports for the north metro area as well as education and city government in Fort Lupton. Before that, he spent 15 years at the Golden Transcript as a general assignment reporter and sports editor, 2 1/2 years at a defunct country-western station in Denver covering news and anchoring and 4 1/2 years at Rocky Mountain AAA doing on-air traffic reports.

Steve attended the University of Denver and earned a degree in mass communications in 1980. He’s originally from Pasadena, California, where his favorite sports teams were "anyone playing at home." He enjoys reading, theater, cooking, old musicals, such as "The Sound of Music," comic operas, music and puns.
