The Littleton Police Department has filed preliminary charges against the driver involved in the automobile-bike crash that killed a Euclid Middle School student on Oct. 17.
On Nov. 7, the department charged 39-year-old Beth Ann Hutchinson with careless driving resulting in death. The information was released to the public on Nov. 10.
Careless driving resulting in death is a class 1 misdemeanor traffic offense under Colorado law. It is punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
At 8:04 a.m. on Oct. 17, police and South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the crash at the intersection of South Elati Street and South Arapahoe Drive.
Despite life-saving measures, the 13-year-old student was pronounced dead at the scene.
Since his death, community members have made demands for safer bike and pedestrian infrastructure in Littleton.
The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will handle the next steps of the case.
