Eight teams from the northern area qualified for the regional volleyball tournaments this weekend at school sites up and down the Front Range. One, Holy Family High School, earned the right to host a regional tournament.
A total of 36 teams from each classification moved into the tournaments. Three teams were placed in each of 12 brackets. The teams that win two matches at regionals qualify for the state volleyball tournament next week at the Denver Coliseum.
Here is a quick breakdown.
Class 3A
Fort Lupton (15-8) and Peak to Peak Charter School (13-10) play at Platte Valley High School (18-5) starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. Payton Faulhaber led the offense for the Bluedevils. She totaled 193 kills and compiled a hitting percentage of 34%. Dani Aviles had 112 kills, and a team-best 59 aces.
Stargate School (12-11) and James Irwin Charter High School (17-6) play at Timnath High School (20-3). Date and game time have not been determined. Emma Herbollsheimer led the Eagles with 103 kills and a 34% hitting average. Jocelyn Aguirre had 85 kills this season, and Alonda Enriquez led in aces with 41.
Class 4A
Holy Family (16-7) earned the right to host a regional tournament. The Tigers will welcome Roosevelt (14-9) and Golden (13-9) high schools to Broomfield. Date and times have not been announced. Ava Olson led the Tigers with 243 kills and a hitting percentage of 0.391. Delaney Watson totaled 187 kills, and her hitting percentage was better than 47%.
Frederick (11-12) and Montrose (14-9) high schools visit Green Mountain High School (18-5). Date and times have not been set. Stephanie Congdon totaled 152 kills for the Golden Eagles, and her hitting percentage was 41%. She also led the squad with 62 aces. Kelsey Mathews added 119 kills.
Riverdale Ridge (16-7) and Glenwood Springs (12-11) high schools travel to Lutheran High School (18-5). Date and times have not been set. Addie Goff led the Ravens’ offense with 221 kills and a 35% hitting average. Kiera Bartlett had an even 100 kills, and Naomi Decker served up 39 aces in 71 sets.
Class 5A
Pine Creek High School (21-2) will host Legacy (15-8) and Douglas County (10-13) high schools. Game times and date of play have not been set. Kaci Esplin led the Lighting with 257 kills and a hitting percentage of .0468. Aislin Oldach served a team-high 45 aces.
Horizon (17-6) and Fountain-Fort Carson (16-7) high schools play their tournament at Fossil Ridge High School (19-4) in Fort Collins. First serve is at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3. Karris Oller led Horizon with 279 kills and compiled a 0.365 hitting percentage. Samantha Siedlecki had 157 kills and a hitting percentage of better than 50%. Oller also led the team in aces with 44.
In Region 8, Brighton (14-9) and Dakota Ridge high schools (19-4) play at Grandview High School (18-5). Date of play and game times have not been set. Codi Jackson led the Bulldogs with 163 kills and a hitting percentage of 0.344. Jaedyn Symons amassed 157 kills this season.
