I read the article on the Uplands groundbreaking and cannot believe the hyperbole. Specifically, I am referring to the headline “star studded guest list and protesters.”

At first, I thought I must’ve missed Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift. Then I realized you were referring to local politicos and the governor, who must’ve been their +1.

In my opinion, the true stars of the day were the Save The Farm organization. For the past 3+ years, the STF volunteers informed both the public and the city powers of the downside of this mega development. Time and time again, they raised the issues of water supply, open space, land dedication, traffic issues, problems with metro tax districts, floodplain considerations and impact on the surrounding neighborhood – just to name a few.

So let’s not reduce the value that these “stars” have brought to the debate.

Also, I question the fact that local authorities attended the groundbreaking while other parcels of the Uplands development are still pending approval. The power of public perception is a very real thing.
