As the academic school year concludes and summer nears, residents searching for community events are in luck: The City of Centennial plans to host a variety of free-admission festivities throughout the summer and fall.
Many of the events are returning from previous years, such as last year’s Whiskey Warmer and the annual Brew-N-Que. Here are some of the events residents can expect to see this year:
District Summer Socials
Between June 9 and July 26, residents will have four opportunities to visit with city council members during informal gatherings at select parks in each city district. The gatherings will feature live music, yard games and local vendors and food trucks.
Those attending are encouraged to bring their own camp chairs to the park. The city recommends residents visit its property search website if they are unsure which district they live in.
- The District 1 social is at Arapaho Park, located at 7800 S. Adams St., from 6-8 p.m.Thursday, June 9. Blue Mesa will perform, a two-person band that often plays classic rock, folk rock and country music.
- The District 2 social is at Cherry Knolls Park, located at 7077 S. Elizabeth St., from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14. The band Juice O’The Barley will perform Irish pub classics as well as Irish folk, pop and rock music.
- The District 3 social is at Foxridge Park, located at 7900 S. Oneida Way, from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 21. Musical guest Six Foot Joe will play horn-driven rock and blues music.
- The District 4 social is at Indian Ridge Elementary School, located at 16501 E. Progress Drive, from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 26. The band Darling Revival will perform music similar to that of Chris Stapleton, Fleetwood Mac and Emmylou Harris.
The 7th annual Brew-N-Que will be from 3-7 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Centennial Center Park, located at 13050 E. Peakview Ave. Attendees are invited to enjoy local barbeque and tastings from local brewers. There will be live music and at least six Colorado breweries in attendance.
Admission is free and open to all ages. Barbeque will be available for purchase during the event. Tickets for beer tastings, on the other hand, can be purchased in advance. Each $20 beer sampling ticket is worth 10, 3-ounce samples. Tickets sold out last year, so the city recommends advanced purchase.
The city invites residents and their families to attend its annual summer celebration, Centennial Under the Stars, from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Centennial Center Park, located at 13050 E. Peakview Ave.
The event will feature a range of family-friendly activities, such as a Ninja Warrior-style obstacle course, as well as a laser light show, local vendors and food trucks.
There will also be live musical performances by: The Man Cubs, a band that performs Disney songs in an alternative rock and pop-punk style; Jenny Shawhan, a musician with a style similar to that of Dolly Parton and Bonnie Raitt; and Paizley Park, a Prince tribute band.
More than 30 local artists will be creating art pieces using chalk from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Streets at SouthGlenn, located at 6851 S. Vine St.
The Chalk Art Festival will also feature a variety of local businesses and vendors, as well as an outdoor concert. There will be performances by singer-songwriter Dave Miller and students from School of Rock Aurora.
Those interested in being a chalk artist at the event can sign up to participate online.
After making its debut last year, the Whiskey Warmer event will return to Centennial Center Park, located at 13050 E. Peakview Ave., from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, inviting residents to play yard games and enjoy tastings of Colorado whiskey. There will be local distilleries, vendors and food trucks, as well as live performances by musical groups Soul School Live and Pandas and People.
Admission is free and open to all ages. Tickets for the alcohol tastings can be purchased in advance. The city encourages those interested to subscribe to its special events email list to receive event updates.
