Golden volunteer firefighters are an important part of the community, especially as warmer weather and wildfire season approaches.
They are a ready resource available to help neighbors and residents, often on the worst day of their lives.
And to help ensure these local heroes are adequately compensated City Council approved Resolution 2852 on consent, which increases the monthly benefit in the Volunteer Firefighter Pension Plan from $615 to $625.
The $10 per month increase is for fully vested (20 years of service) volunteer firefighters, with the proportional benefit increases for partially vested volunteers.
The increase stems from a recommendation from the Volunteer Firefighter Pension Board.
It’s been close to 18 years since volunteer firefighters in Golden saw a financial bump in their pension.
That increase, from $600 to $615 per month, was approved back in December of 2004.
