Maiker Housing Partners, the former Adams County Housing Authority, is underway on its project to build a new affordable housing development with 142 units.
Maiker was joined by Adams County and Thornton officials March 3 to break ground on Crossing Pointe South, the second phase of the Crossing Pointe affordable housing community in Thornton. Maiker was awarded tax credits from the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) in 2018 to support the construction of the community.
“Maiker exists to create homes where people can pursue their own unique version of the American dream and Crossing Pointe South does just that,” said Maiker’s Executive Director Peter LiFari. “This is important and difficult work in this rapidly increasing cost environment of housing development in Colorado, and it truly takes a village to make communities like Crossing Pointe South possible.”
Crossing Pointe South is located at 4220 E. 104th Ave, located a quarter-mile from the Thornton Crossroads light rail station and adjacent to its sister property, Crossing Pointe North, which was built in 2019.
While Crossing Pointe North is designated as senior living, Crossing Pointe South will be an intergenerational community serving families earning between 30% and 70% of the area median income. It offers affordable housing for families and seniors in need of housing options with wrap-around services.
Thornton City Councilors Jessica Sandgren said she is pleased to see the project underway.
“As a Colorado native, I’ve seen housing costs on the rise firsthand and the number of families who simply cannot afford what’s out there,” Sandgren said. “If you don’t have options, you feel hopeless and if you don’t have hope, you can’t move forward. I see this development as a piece of hope in a place that’s nice, that people can feel good about, and it’s right here in our city.”
The community offers 142 new apartment homes including one, two and three-bedroom units with amenities like a fitness center, courtyards and vegetable gardens to promote a healthy lifestyle. The property is also located just minutes from the Thornton Crossroads light rail station, allowing easy access to transit.
