DENVER — Fort Lupton’s Rylee Balcazar captured the state title at 100 pounds tonight with a 4-0 decision over Sorocco’s Larhae Whaley.
Balcazar, a sophomore, won 14 of her 15 matches this season. Her toughest match in the tournament was in the finale. She pined Yuma’s Camila Sanchez and Pomona’s Alyra Gomez. Her semifinal win was against Katey Valdez of Doherty, and the final score was a technical fall count of 18-3.
Anastyn Livesay wound up fourth among 161-pounders. She split her two consolation round matches this afternoon. She beat Alison Evans of Vista Ridge 3-0 in the consolation semifinals. Kim Carlson of Loveland earned a tough, 2-1 decision over Licesay in the third-place match.
Livesay finished the season with a record of 23-11.

DENVER — Fort Lupton’s Rylee Balcazar continued her trek toward a state title last night at the state girls wrestling tournament at Ball Arena. She earned a major (18-3) decision over Doherty’s Katey Valdez in the 100-pound semifinals.
Balcazar, the top seed in the weight class, faces second-seeded Larhae Whaley of Sorocco for the crown later tonight.
At 161 pounds, Mead’s Jenna Joseph beat Fort Lupton’s Anastyn Livesay by pinfall in the semifinals. Livesay awaits the winner of this morning’s match between Anastacia Fucci of Pomona and Alison Evans of Vista Ridge.
At 118 pounds, Fort Lupton’s Geneveive Hunt won her first consolation match against Katherine Seals of Fountain-Fort Carson. Hunt scored a 3-2 overtime win. Chatfield’s Journey Ruiz beat Hunt by pinfall in the third round of consolations, which brought an end to Hunt’s season.
At 185 pounds, Fort Lupton’s Gizelle Adame is out of the tournament. She lost in the first round of the consolation bracket to Vivi Cranwill of Bennett by pinfall. Angelrae Gasca lost in the second round of consolations last night. Vista Peak’s Samiah Andrews pinned Gasca in 4:22 of their match at 215 pounds.

Fort Lupton’s Rylee Balcazar advanced to the 100-pound semifinals at the state girls wrestling tournament this morning.
Balcazar, a sophomore, pinned Ayra Gomez of Pomona in 5:58 of their quarterfinal.
Balcazar takes on Doherty’s Katey Valdez in a semifinal later tonight.
Anastyn Livesay made it to the 161-pound semifinals this morning. She earned a 7-2 decision over Loveland’s Kim Carliln in the quarterfinals. Livesay faces Mead’s Jenna Joseph in the semis later tonight.
At 118 pounds, Olathe’s Nicole Koch pinned Fort Lupton’s Genevieve Hunt in 2:14 of the quarterfinals. Hunt’s first consolation round match is later this afternoon.
At 215 pounds, Max Ziegler of Broomfield pinned the Bluedevils’ Angelrae Gasca in 66 seconds of their quarterfinal round match. Gasca’s first consolation round match is later on.
Second-round consolation matches begin at 4:30 p.m. Semifinal round matches start at 6;30 p.m.

DENVER — The first round of the state girls wrestling tournament is in the books, and four of the five Fort Lupton wreslters advanced to tomorrow’s quarterfinals.
Rylee Balcazar, the top seed at 100 pounds, pinned Yuma’s Camila Sanchez in 46 seconds. Balcazar, a sophomore, takes on Pomona’s Alyra Gomez in the quarterfinals.
Genevieve Hunt earned a major decision (9-1) win over Severance’s Aubrey Dare at 118 pounds. She’ll take on Nicole Koch of Chatfield in the next round.
Anastyn Livesay moved into the quarterfinals with a 5-2 decision over Leilani Caamal of Vista Peak at 161 pounds. Livesay draws Loveland’s Kim Carlin in tomorrow’s quarterfinal.
Angelrae Gasca won her 215-pound match against Grand Junction’s Eden Shmalz by pinfall in 32 seconds. Gasca’s next opponent is Broomfield’s Max Ziegler.
Calhan’s Taylor Knox pinned FLHS’ Gizell Adame in 1:40 of their 185-pound match. Adame moves into the consolation draw, where she’ll face Bennett’s Vivi Cranwill.
Quarterfinal rounds and the first round of consolation matches begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
