DENVER —  Dmitri Garza-Alarcon is a two-time state wrestling champion.

The Fort Lupton High School sophomore hung on to beat Brady Hankin of Woodland Park 4-3 in tonight’s 138-pound finals.

It was the closest match  of the tournament for Alarcon. He pinned his first two opponents, Garrett McGirl of Valley High School and Eaton’s Jake Hergenreter. The semifinal win over Florence’s Brandon Boehm was a 5-0 decision. Garza-Alarcon finished his season with a record of 44-3.

Will Alvarado (33-12) finished sixth at 152 pounds at the state 3A wrestling tournament this afternoon. Alvarado, who won his first two matches, lost to Paxton Daggett of University by pnfall in the consolation semifinal and was unable to compete in the fifth-place match due to injry.

Danny Rodriguez lost a tough, 3-2 decision to Lamar’s Cyrus Madrid in the third round of the consolation draw and did not place.

He finished the season with a 34-15 record.

Kayden Derbigny, the Bluedevils’ 220-pounder, did not place at his weight. After a 3-1 decision over Severance’s Domonic Butts in the second round of consolation matches, Dominick Ontiveros of Brush pinned Derbigny in 2:00 of the third-round consolation match. Derbigny finished the season with a mark of 26-18.

10:05 p.m. Feb. 18

DENVER — Fort Lupton’s Dmitri Garza-Alarcon will compete for his second straight title tomorrow night.

The sophomore earned a 5-0 decision over Brandon Boehm of Florence in tonight’s semifinals. He faces Woodland Park’s Brady Hankin for the title.

Danny Rodriguez’s season is still alive. He pinned University’s Tytan Bentley in 2:53 of their second-round consolation match at 145 pounds.  Rodriguez faces Cyrus Madrid of Lamar in the third round of consolations.

Will Alvarado can finish no worse than sixth at 152 pounds. Sterling’s Casteus Combs pinned Alvarado in 2:30 of their semifinal match. Alvarado faces either Isaak Copeland of Bennett or Paxton Daggett of Unviersity.

Kayden Derbigny stayed alive in the 220-pound tournament. He beat Fort Morgan’s Adolfo Hernandez by pinfall and beat Dominic Butts of Severance 3-1. Next up for Derbigny is a match against Brush’s Dominick Ontiveros.

Gilbert Antillon of Mullen ended Donovan Birmingham’s season. Antillon earned a major (14-2) decision in the 113-pound consolation round. Birmingham’s season record was 22-17.

Isaac Rodriguez’s season came to an end in the second round of consolations. Gunnar Clary of Eaton pinned Rodriguez in 2:16 of their match. Rodriguez finished the season with a record of 20-10. At 170 pounds, Ryan Connelly beat Christopher Galicia by a score of 7-5, eliminating Galicia from the tournament. Galicia finished his freshman season with a mark of 23-14.

Alex Mata is out of the 182-pound tournament. Cal Sidwell of Eaton pinned Mata in 4:42 of their quarterfinal match tonight. Mata finished with a mark of 24-16.  Bayfield’s Jordan Cundiff pinned Dylan Jarmillo in 1:48 of the first round of consolation matches at 285 pounds, eliminating Jaramillo from the tournament. He finished with a record of 7-8.

Action resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19.

9:45 a.m. Feb. 18

DENVER — Fort Lupton’s Dmitri Garza-Alarcon advanced to the 138-pound semifinals of the state 3A wrestling tournament this morning.

Garza-Alarcon pinned Eaton’s Jake Hergenreter in 1:31 of the quarterfinals at Ball Arena. Garza-Alarcon faces Brandon Boehm of Florence in tonight’s semifinals.

William Alvarado of the Bluedevils made it to the 152-pound semifinals. He needed overtime to beat Ryan Duzik of Moffat County by a score of 12-7. Alvarado faces Casteus of Combs in the semis.

Alamosa’s Dempsey Gibbs pinned Fort Lupton’s Donovan Birmingham in 1:01 of their 113-pound quarterfinal match this morning. Birmingham is alive in the consolation draw. His first match in that draw will be later tonight.

Teammate Danny Rodriguez lost in the 145-pound quarterfinals to Gunnison’s Miles Harris by pinfall. Rodriguez’ first consolation-round match is later tonight.

First-round consolation matches are underway. Second-round consolation matches start at 4:30 p.m., and the semifinals begin at 6:30 p.m.

DENVER — Four Fort Lupton wrestlers moved into the quarterfinals of the state 3A wrestling tournament at Ball Arena Feb. 17.

Donovan Birmingham beat Eaton’s Preston Smith 8-7 at 113 pounds. Birmingham faces Alamosa’s Dempsey Gibbs in the quarterfinals. Dmitri Garza Alarcon needed 53 seconds to beat Valley’s Garrett McGirl at 138 pounds. Alarcon faces Eaton’s Jake Hergenreter in the next round.

At 145 pounds, Danny Rodriguez earned a 9-5 decision over Eaton’s Jackson Tribbell in the opening round. Rodriguez faces Gunnison’s Miles Harris in the quarterfinals. William Alcvarado earned a major (10-1) decision over Bennett’s Isaak Campbell at 152 pounds. He faces Moffat County’s Ryan Duzik.

NaMarcus Williams of Denver West earned a 12-5 decision over Isaac Rodriguez at 160 pounds. Rodriguez faces florence’s Xavier Martinez in the first round of consolation matches. Ryan Dirksen of Eaton earned a major (18-0) decision over Christopher Galicia at 170 pounds. Galicia, a freshman, takes on Ryan Connelly of Elizabeth in the first round of consolation matches.

Egen Stephens of Woodland Park pinned FLHS’ Alex Mata in 4:57 of their 182-pound match. Mata drops into the consolation draw and faces Moffat County’s BIlly Lawlon. At 220 pounds, Delta’s Gus Butler pinned Kayden Derbigny in 4:33 of their first-round match. Derbigny takes on Fort Morgan’s Adolfo Hernandez in the consolation round. At 285 pounds, Aidan Trujillo of Valley pinned Dylan Jaramillo in 2:19. Jaramillo faces Jordan Cundiff in the first round of consolation matches.

Quarterfinal rounds and first-round consolation matches begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
