Adams City defensive end and kicker David Victoria knows just what Ringo Starr, Joe Cocker and Mumford and Sons meant when they sang “With A Little Help From My Friends.”
He needed a little help from his friends when it came picking the place where he’ll further his education and play football next year.
“I chose Waldorf (Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa) because they have a winning mindset and they have something really good going on there,” Victoria said. “And I have a former teammate on the team, and he let me know about how the coaching staff is, how the school is and how the football team is. So I have a good idea what it’s all about.”
Victoria plans to take a visit to the campus later on.
“Distance from the school to my home was a big factor, but I have to be willing to handle that,” he said. “I could keep playing football and focus on my career; however,
I’m willing to travel to Waldorf University. Gladly they wanted to give me the chance to play at the next level and continue furthering my education.”
Waldorf University is an NAIA program that began in 2003. Its lifetime record is 45-131.
“I had a good six other scholarships ready for me. It’s just I didn’t feel like I would’ve fit perfectly there,” he said. “I am glad they also offer me scholarships and they’re giving me the chance to play for them. I’m really grateful for all the other schools.”
Victoria recorded 13 tackles and 12 assisted tackles in nine games for the Eagles in 2021. Five of those tackles were sacks. He wants to get into law school after college and open his own law firm.
“The whole recruitment process was really weird,” he said. “Because I hadn’t done it before and no one in my family, either. Luckily, I had someone to help me I was able to get coaches numbers and emails, Thankfully, they got through with my film.”
Victoria is ready for the next step.
“I will work my butt off every single time, like how I did in high school.” Victoria said. “I’m coming to play hard and not give up. I want to thank my family for everything they have done for me and always being there and supporting me in any way possible.”
