Lakewood Police were called to the Trails End Motel at 9025 West Colfax Ave. for reports of shots fired around noon Jan. 24.

When police arrived, they found a man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, Angel Santibanez, of Denver, was transferred to a hospital where he later died of his injuries.

According to Lakewood Police Public Information Officer John Romero, two men — 24-year-old Maliq Alston Williamson and 35-year-old Antonio Antiwon Johnson, both of Denver, were located and taken into custody overnight on Jan. 26.

They are currently being detained at the Jefferson County jail in connection with the crime.

Williamson is being held on suspicion of committing First Degree Murder. Johnson is being held on suspicion of committing Accessory to First Degree Murder. According to jail records, Williamson is being held without bond, and Johnson is being held on $50,000 cash bond.

Little information is publicly available about Santibanez. But in a donations page set up to help cover his funeral expenses, he is described as a loving son, father, brother, cousin and nephew.

“He was very creative and loved making music. He loved spending time with his son and his family. He loved playing video games. Anyone who knows Angel knows how he could make a whole room laugh, especially with how contagious his laughter was,” said Serena Ball, who set up the page.
