Buy a drink and help victims of the Dec. 30 Marshall Fire in Boulder County.
Through the Feb. 12 Winterfest event, some Georgetown businesses are donating proceeds from special items toward relief efforts.
The Georgetown Visitor Center and GT Workspace are donating a portion of their sales, and Cabin Creek Brewing and Cooper’s on the Creek are donating proceeds from specific drinks.
Marc Vitelli, Cabin Creek Brewing’s brand manager, said the brewery also has point-of-sale donations for its patrons, who have donated more than $1,300 as of Jan. 19. This allows patrons to donate to relief efforts whenever they pay for their food and drinks, he explained.
The brewery is donating all its January proceeds from the Pounder beer to the fire victims, he described. Whether that will continue into February hasn’t been determined yet, but he said point-of-sale donations will go through Feb. 28.
The point-of-sale donations typically go to the nearby Easterseals camp, and Pounder proceeds are donated to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. However, because two of the brewery’s owners are full-time Denver firefighters, helping those impacted by the fire was near and dear to Cabin Creek, Vitelli explained.
“We talked about it the day after it happened, and we were all on board,” he continued. “… Every little bit helps.”
Likewise, Cooper’s co-owner Amanda Cooper decided to donate proceeds from the Superior Spritzer — called Santa Fe Spritzer on the menu — to relief efforts.
The $10 cocktail is made with green chili-infused vodka, a mint-basil simple syrup, lemon juice and a champagne floater. The result is a mix of sweet and spicy — a taste that’s mild, warm and bubbly.
Cooper used to work in Louisville and said she knew several people — friends and friends of friends — who lost their homes.
“I feel heartbroken,” Cooper said. “… It’s a helpless feeling. I have a hard time not doing something.”
