A 20-year-old Denver man has been arrested and will face a preliminary hearing on Feb. 9 for his role in a deadly crash at West Sixth Avenue and Colfax that left one dead and injured three.

Golden Police officers took Guillermo Ramirez into custody at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Ramirez is charged with one count of vehicular homicide, three counts of vehicular assault, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and driving without a license.

He made his first court appearance on Friday, Jan. 14.

A Golden Police Department statement said that at 4:53 a.m. on Dec. 17, a silver Chevy Malibu blew past a Golden police officer at somewhere between 90 and 100 mph.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the Malibu continued into the intersection of West Sixth Avenue and West Colfax Avenue, running a red light and striking an SUV, causing it to burst in flames.

Three passengers in the SUV were able to escape, but the officer had to use a fire extinguisher to suppress flames on two of them.

A 24-year old passenger in Ramirez’s vehicle, Brisia Leon, was thrown from the vehicle and died.

Ramirez is being held at the Jefferson County Jail.

His bond is set at $50,000.
