LAKEWOOD — Frederick High School couldn’t overcome a combination of untimely turnovers and cold shooting during its first-round game of the state 4A basketball playoffs March 9.
The homestanding Green Mountain Rams beat the Warriors 64-32. The loss ended FHS’ season. The Warriors finished 10-5. GMHS takes an 11-5 record into its second-round game at undefeated Montrose Thursday, March 11.
FHS made just 20 percent of its field-goal attempts. Green Mountain’s defense forced 16 Warriors’ turnovers, which turned into 14 Rams’ points. Green Mountain blocked seven shots, and Dylan Green yanked down 22 rebounds.
Darius Padilla led the Rams with 12 points. Austin Peterson added 11, while Corbin Jantzer and Allen Ortiz scored 10. Bryce Conover led FHS with nine points. Jacoby Conway was next with seven.
