Equity, inclusion are needed

Thank you to Colorado Community Media for the many articles in last week’s paper about the Douglas County School District’s lack of diversity.

I am a “transplanted” Californian (from Los Angeles) who noticed right away when moving to Highlands Ranch the lack of racial diversity. I have grandchildren in the DCSD and as they grow and develop a “sense” of the world I would hope that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion be a part of their education. These principles and practices must be part of the structural culture that schools, communities, and households build to operate in and create a more perfect democracy.

We must support the district’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility Strategic Initiative Team as well as the Equity Advisory Council in order to advance equity in the district. ALL students (and families) will benefit from a racially just system!
