Weld Re-8 Superintendent Alan Kaylor’s paid leave of absence will continue until Monday, March 29, the first day of class after the district’s spring break.
Kaylor, who asked for the leave early last month, participated in a virtual re-8 board of education meeting Feb. 25. His leave began Feb. 9.
“It is not an administrative leave, he is not under any investigation,” board President Susan K. Browne said. “He is currently on a paid personal leave of absence being paid from his sick balance.”
Kaylor contracted coronavirus late last year.
Plaudits for Moore
Kaylor was part of a discussion praising the efforts of Andrew Moore, the district’s director of support services. Among other things. Moore helped direct the district’s response to last week’s snowstorm. The district held classes but with an hour’s delay.
“Last night (Feb. 24), as the snow was flying, I was on the phone with him. He was out at 2:30 in the morning texting me about a decision of whether school was going to proceed.”
Browne read a statement from Homyak K-8 Principal Julie Garcia into the record.
“Every time Andrew responds, he does so with professionalism and goes above and beyond to support our community (including supplying personal protective equipment),” Garcia’s comments said. “He’s always willing to do whatever needs to be done. Andrew wears all of
his hats well.”
Moore, who was on the Zoom meeting, said he got up at 1:45 a.m. and took a 20-minute nap when he got home.
“I appreciate everyone I work with,” Moore said. “We have a great team in support services. I appreciate my team for all that they do.”
“I consider him a close colleague of mine,” Kaylor continued. “He works diligently to make sure the students and staff are taken care of every day.’
Expand School Board?
The school board has a sixth member. She is Jamie Sierra, who represents District A, which takes in the area around the Homyak school. The board can have up to seven members. But it’s considering whether to keep board membership at seven or draw up another plan instead.
