What makes you the best choice for this office?
I represent your average citizen, your average voter. I live the challenges of balancing the demands of parenting, a career, being active in my community and maintaining my own identity. I am a scientist at heart; I use data, facts, reason and logic to drive my decision-making, but I am also an empath and believe that everyone’s voice needs to be heard and represented. As a powerlifter, I rely on myself to shoulder any burden, and as a football player, I understand and embrace teamwork, cooperation and the idea of the greatest good for the greatest number.
If you’re elected, what is one single issue that will be at the top of your agenda?
Obviously, there are many important issues that require time and attention. In triaging these issues in light of the current situation, economic recovery will be a top priority for me if elected. COVID-19 is the elephant in the room, and we have to address the fact that it has impacted every Coloradan in some way. From furloughs to reduced incomes, to shuttering of businesses and schools, we have to find sustainable ways to support our family, friends and neighbors impacted most while ensuring their health and safety.
If you’re elected, what must you accomplish in order for you to consider your term a success?
I would consider my term a success if and when TABOR is repealed, and all Coloradans have access to affordable health care. TABOR has hampered the state’s ability to appropriately and swiftly respond to its ever-changing economic needs and pressures. We can’t rely on a rainy-day fund bucket with holes. All Coloradans have the right to equitable and affordable comprehensive, holistic health care. It has been a topic of debate and discussion for years and it’s time to put our money where our collective mouth is and provide for all of our citizens.
In your eyes, what issues do your constituents care about the most?
Before COVID-19, I think there was a focus on continued community prosperity — helping small businesses continue to flourish, building and maintaining excellent schools, a sustainable plan for growth. Since COVID-19, I think these areas are still a focus, but now it’s about preservation of those areas, maintaining the lives we’ve built and limiting the impact to them by the pandemic. There is also concern (rightly so) for our health, safety and well-being — physical, emotional and financial during this pandemic and our ability to weather the storm, so there is renewed interest in health care and economics.
Why are you seeking this office?
Everyone deserves to be accurately and fairly represented by their elected officials. I have a long track record of fighting for those whose voices have been silenced. As a female, a mother and a Jew, I, too have felt ignored and marginalized by those who were supposed to represent what is in my and my family’s best interests. There are too many important issues at hand that require a level head, a warm heart and a critical eye to be able to work cooperatively with others to find solutions that benefit the greatest number of people, not the privileged few.
