A man was charged with felony menacing and bias-motivated crimes after allegedly making racist remarks while threatening a Black woman with a handgun at Staybridge Suites in south Littleton on Sept. 20, according to the Littleton Police Department.
The department announced the arrest of Douglas Murphy, 51, in a bulletin on Sept. 30.
According to the bulletin, officers responded to Staybridge Suites near Santa Fe Drive and C-470 after receiving a report of a white man ringing a doorbell and making racist remarks outside a room occupied by a Black woman.
The man left before hotel staff or officers could contact him, but returned later in the day and resumed harassing the woman while brandishing a handgun, according to police. Officers identified the suspect as Murphy.
Murphy has been charged with felony menacing with a real or simulated weapon, a class 5 felony, and a bias-motivated crime, a class 1 misdemeanor, according to court documents. Murphy is being held in the Arapahoe County jail on $25,000 bond.
The bulletin does not mention when or where Murphy was arrested. Colorado Community Media has requested his arrest documents.
