Kile Joshua Chaca, 22, appeared in Jefferson County District Court on Sept. 22, where he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for shooting a man in the parking lot of a Walmart in Lakewood.

On Aug. 25, 2019 a Lakewood Police Department agent was working on patrol at the Walmart at 440 Wadsworth when he heard gunshots. He followed the sound of the shots and found an adult male lying on the ground, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital.

Chaca and the 33-year-old victim had been involved in a parking lot road rage incident. A verbal altercation ensued, which led to Chaca pulling out a gun and shooting the victim five times

Chaca was convicted of Attempted Second Degree Murder (F4) and First Degree Assault (F5) following five days of trial in August, 2020. This was the first felony jury trial held in Jefferson County following the partial lifting of the COVID-19 court restrictions.
